Fujian to build 14 mental health clinics by 2011

Shanghai. November 10. INTERFAX-CHINA - Fujian Province will construct 14 metal health clinics at three administrative levels, the Fujian Provincial Reform and Development Commission announced on Nov. 10.

According to the announcement, of the 14 clinics, one will be at provincial level, two at the county level and eight at the city level, collectively capable of providing 4,692 beds for inpatient treatment.

Construction of the facilities is valued at an estimated RMB 438 million ($64.13 million), of which RMB 151 million ($22.11 million) will be contributed by the central government.

The clinics are projected to be fully operational by 2011.

According to the Fujian provincial government, the mental health facilities will provide treatment to emotionally disturbed patients and provide educational outreach to communities to increase awareness of mental illness.
