Swiss firm to base digital TV R & D center in Beijing

Shanghai. November 12. INTERFAX-CHINA - Kudelski Group, a Switzerland-based digital TV solutions provider, will launch a research and development center in Beijing, the company announced on Nov. 11.

Kudelski will recruit 100 employees for the new R & D center, which will be responsible for the design and development of digital TV solutions, middle ware and the integration and testing of related products, according to the announcement.

Currently, Kudelski conducts business in China through its two subsidiaries, Nagravision SA, a conditional access (CA) solutions provider, and OpenTV, a convergent media solutions provider.

Nagravision and OpenTV's clients include Beijing Gehua CATV Network Co. Ltd., Oriental Cable Network Co. Ltd. and China Satellite Mobile Broadcasting Corp., the official operator of China Multimedia Mobile Broadcasting (CMMB) mobile TV.

Kudelski holds an approximate 5 percent market share in China's CA market, according to figures released by Analysys International.
