Gazprom drilling operations in Tajikistan postponed by 6 months

MOSCOW. Nov 12 (Interfax) - Gazprom is planning to start drilling its first exploration well at the Sarykamysh site in Tajikistan in July/August 2010, the company's spokesperson said.

The initial plan was to start drilling in late 2009/early 2010.

The commencement date was adjusted due to the need to make a detailed analysis of the results of this year's 3D seismic survey, Gazprom Zarubezhneft told Interfax. It is also delayed as the delivery of heavy drilling equipment needs to go through a road stretching several tens of kilometers that has yet to be built.

The site is the first in Tajikistan to be surveyed under the 3D seismic method, Gazprom said.

In 2010, 3D seismic surveys are expected to be carried out at the Sargazon, Rengan and Western Shaambary sites. The drilling of the second well in Sargazon should start in late 2010.
