Ukraine, EU plan to draft document on energy crisis prevention

BRUSSELS. Nov 17 (Interfax) - Ukraine and the European Union have agreed to draw up a document that would help prevent crises in the energy sector, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Petro Poroshenko told journalists in Brussels.

"We have not yet decided whether it will be a trilateral document or a document between Ukraine and the European Union aimed at preventing crisis situations in the energy sector in advance. An agreement to draft this document was received today, and our experts will start working on it in the near future," he said.

Energy security was also addressed at Poroshenko's meeting with his counterparts from EU states, which are members of the so-called group of friends for Ukraine, in Brussels on Tuesday.

"We expressed hope that Ukraine and the European Union will take serious steps that will allow us to join the energy community. There are sound prospects for this today," the Ukrainian minister said.
