Aeroflot boosts passenger volume 2.5% in October

MOSCOW. Nov 18 (Interfax) - Aeroflot Russian Airlines boosted passenger volume 2.5% in October 2009 year-on-year, the company said in a statement.

"Aeroflot carried 794,200 passengers in October 2009, including 3,700 passengers on charter flights," the statement says. Passenger turnover totaled 2.376 billion passenger-kilometers.

Passenger volume in the first 10 months of 2009 totaled 7.294 million and passenger turnover amounted to 21.590 billion passenger-kilometers. Seat occupancy was 69.5% and the commercial load factor was 55.5%.

Seat occupancy in October was 74%, 2.1 percentage points higher than in the same month last year.

Aeroflot expects passenger volume to decline 14% in 2009, General Director Vitaly Savelyev said at the beginning of November.

The flagship carrier had 9.3 million passengers in 2008.

Passenger volume declined 8.9% in January-September 2009 year-on-year to 6.5 million. Passenger turnover fell 7.6% in the nine months to 19.214 billion passenger-kilometers. Seat occupancy was 69%, 2.8 percentage points less year-on-year.
