CNPC expects to double Qingshen's gas reserves

Shanghai. November 25. INTERFAX-CHINA - China National Petroleum Corp. expects to discover between 200 billion and 300 billion cubic meters of new proven natural gas reserves at its Qingshen Gasfield in Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province, the company announced on Nov. 25.

CNPC has drilled 170 wells at the gasfield over the last five years to compensate for the shrinking oil output at its Daqing Oilfield, according to a company newsletter. The gasfield, which is the largest in eastern China, currently has 200 million cubic meters of proven reserves.

CNPC also plans to build a liquefied natural gas facility at the gasfield.

The company discovered Qingshen's first 100 million cubic meters of proven reserves at the end of 2005, making it China's fifth largest gasfield. The other four gasfields are all located in western China.
