Nizhny Novgorod design bureau expects floating NPP roadmap approval
MOSCOW. Dec 7 (Interfax) - The Nizhny Novgorod Afrikantov Design Bureau hopes to sign the roadmap for floating nuclear power plants in June 2010, Bureau Deputy Director for Development Yevgeny Malyshev said.
The barge carrying the pilot floating nuclear power plant will be launched in June. The barge is under construction at the Baltic shipyards. The program of the construction of floating nuclear power plants will be discussed then. About eight floating nuclear power plants will be constructed.
Malyshev did not say who might be the client. Apart from the pilot power plant, the locations of another two have been chosen - Pevek and Ust-Kuiga (Yakutia).
Floating nuclear power plants have a large export potential. The world is building twelve small nuclear power plants with a capacity of 10-100 megawatts, and Russia's floating power plant is one of them, Malyshev said.
