Over 50 pct of 3G phones sold in October WCDMA-based

Beijing. December 10. INTERFAX-CHINA - Nearly 450,000 WCDMA handsets were sold in October, accounting for 51.42 percent of the cumulative 870,000 3G handsets sold during the same period, a China United Network Communications Co. Ltd. (China Unicom) employee announced on Dec. 10.

Song Limei, the general manager of China Unicom's personal communication division, said that 1.11 million WCDMA handsets were sold in China in 2009.

China Unicom gained 801,000 additional GSM users in October, bringing its total GSM user base to 144 million. The operator now has 1.02 million WCDMA users, according to Song.
