Baidu commands 77 pct of search engine market in Q3

Beijing. December 15. INTERFAX - Chinese search giant Baidu.com held a record high 77 percent market share in the third quarter of 2009, according to a Dec. 14 market research report on China's search engine market conducted by iReseach Consulting Group.

Baidu.com's market share grew by 1.3 percent quarter-on-quarter, while rival Google's market share shrank by 1.9 percent to hit 17.9 percent during the third quarter, the report said.

According to the report, 54.5 billion Web search queries were made between July and September, up 7.6 percent from the second quarter. There were 41.94 billion search queries made on Baidu.com during this time, up 9.4 percent from last quarter's 38.32 billion.
