Tajik GDP grew 3.1% in Jan-Nov, inflation 4.9%

DUSHANBE. Dec 29 (Interfax) - Tajikistan's GDP expanded 3.1% year-on-year in Q1-Q3 ( 7.2% in the same period of 2008) to 18.148 billion somoni in current prices (4.3781 somoni/$1), while consumer prices rose 4.9% (12.7%), the State Statistics Committee told Interfax.

Industrial output contracted 7.4% to 5.566 billion somoni in Q1-Q3 (4.2% in the same three quarters last year).

Tajikistan's foreign trade deficit stood at $1.396 billion for the period, a State Statistics Committee representative said.

Foreign trade turnover declined 25.9% to $3.194 billion in Q1-Q3. exports dropped 32.6% to $889.1 million and imports 22.8% to $2.295 billion.

The average exchange rate for the three quarters was 4.1230 somoni/$1.

The International Monetary Fund projects Tajikistan's GDP growth will have slowed to 2% for all of 2009, while inflation will have sped up to 15.5%.
