CIS mission recognizes Ukrainian elections as democratic

KYIV. Jan 18 (Interfax) - The first round of Ukraine's presidential election largely met democratic norms, Alexander Torshin, the head of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly and first deputy head of the Federation Council, told a press conference at Interfax on Monday.

"The organization of the January 17, 2010 elections was mainly up to the provisions of electoral law outlined in the founding documents and the Constitution and the electoral legislation of Ukraine," he said.
