Russia increases meat, milk, & egg output in 2009 - Rosstat
MOSCOW. Jan 27 (Interfax) - Russia increased production of meat, milk, and eggs in 2009, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said on Wednesday.
The output of cattle and poultry for slaughter increased 6.6% to 9.9 million live-weight tonnes in 2009. Milk output rose 0.7% to 32.6 million tonnes, egg production 3.4% to 39.4 billion eggs.
In December 2009, output of cattle and poultry grew 5.9% to 1.4 million tonnes. Milk output rose 3.4% to 2.1 million tonnes, while egg production rose 2.9% to 3.2 billion eggs
As of December 31, 2009, agricultural producers had 20.7 million head of cattle, down 1.5% from the same date in 2008, including 9 million cows, down 1.2%. There were 17.3 million hogs, up 6.7%, and 21.9 million sheep and goats, up 0.9%.
The population accounted for 47.7% of the cattle, 34.3% of the hogs and 51.1% of the sheep and goats on December 31. These figures were a respective 47.3%, 37.9% and 50.6% at the end of 2008.
