China to support traditional Uyghur medicine development

Shanghai. February 10. INTERFAX-CHINA - The central government will allocate RMB 4 million ($485,651) towards research into traditional Uyghur medicine this year, state media reported on Feb. 9.

According to Xinhua news agency, Xinjiang Food and Drug Administration will organize related government agencies, research institutes and drug manufacturers to draft drug quality standards for 40 types of traditional Uyghur medicine.

Drafting of the standards is expected to be completed by the end of this year, the report said.

According to the Ministry of Health, there are currently 115 types of traditional Uyghur medicinal materials and 87 types of finished traditional Uyghur medicines in China, however few pharmaceutical companies are engaged in the research, development and production of traditional Uyghur medicines.
