Medvedev invites Greece to join construction of Sochi Olympics facilities

BARVIKHA, Moscow region. Feb 16 (Interfax) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has invited Greece to join the construction of facilities for the 22nd Winter Olympics in Sochi, Presidential Press Secretary Natalya Timakova told journalists following Medvedev's negotiations with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou.

"The Russian president invited Greek companies to take part in constructing Olympic facilities for the upcoming 2014 Olympics in Sochi," Timakova said.

The Greek prime minister "accepted this invitation with gratitude, taking into account the experience that [Greece] obtained during the organization of the Olympic Games in Athens," she said.

Medvedev and Papandreou discussed bilateral cooperation, in particular, in the energy field, including the South Stream and Burgas-Alexandroupolis projects, she said.

"It was pointed out that, while Greece is experiencing certain economic difficulties, cooperation with Russia becomes of special importance to it," Timakova said.

The two also addressed international and regional problems.

"Greece highly appreciated the Russian president's initiative on a European security treaty," she said.
