Refined copper output up 16.2 pct in first two months

Shanghai. March 11. INTERFAX-CHINA - China produced 702,000 tons of refined copper in the first two months of 2010, up 16.2 percent from the previous year, according to figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on March 11.

The country's refined copper output in February alone stood at 358,000 tons, up 4.1 percent from the previous month.

China's refined lead, zinc, and nickel production in January and February saw year-on-year increases, up 26.4 percent, 47.8 percent, and 8.7 percent respectively to 522,000 tons, 739,000 tons, and 28,159 tons.

Meanwhile, primary aluminum production increased by 45.6 percent year-on-year to 2.57 million tons during the two-month period. The country's alumina output increased by 50.8 percent year-on-year to 4.87 million tons in the same period.

Copper concentrate output increased by 31.8 percent on an annual basis to 170,000 tons during the two-month period.

The country's copper and aluminum product output grew by 33.9 percent and 36.1 percent year-on-year respectively in 2009 to 1.33 million tons and 2.98 million tons.
