Gazprom may join consortium to bid in Qatar

MOSCOW. March 24 (Interfax) - Gazprom may join a consortium to bid in the tender on Block D of Qatar's North Field gas field.

The issue is discussed in materials released by the Russian government in connection with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's meeting with Qatar's prime minister and foreign minister, Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassem.

"The Gazprom group is conducting a geological-economic evaluation of the property being tendered in Qatar: Block D of the North Field gas field. The possibility of forming a consortium of companies to bid in the tender is being explored," the materials say.

Gazprom is eager to organize joint operations with Qatar in the Middle East, including hydrocarbon exploration and production projects, construction of transportation and distribution infrastructure, gas processing and LNG production, they say.

"On this issue Doha is a natural partner for Russia given its location in the region and the level of development of its gas sector. Qatar is the sole supplier of gas for a host of projects," the materials say.
