Putin promises to raise wages, military pensions

MOSCOW. April 20 (Interfax) - Public sector salaries, military pensions, and student stipends will increase in fall 2010, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said.

"We will consider the issue of increasing the wages of public sector workers, servicemen's allowances, military pensions, and student stipends, as we promised to. We will do it in fall 2010 with regard for the state of the budget," Putin said in his address to the State Duma on Tuesday.

Putin said the Cabinet has been paying close attention to the situation in the public sector for the past few years.

"The wage funds in the federal budget sphere were raised by 30% from December 1, 2008," Putin said.
