Taobao launches classified ad listing site in Taiwan

Shanghai. April 23. INTERFAX-CHINA - Koubei.com, Taobao.com's classified ad listing site, has launched in Taiwan, Koubei announced on April 22.

eDynamics Inc. will operate taiwan.koubei.com, and will integrate the site with its two existing local online classifieds sites, Citytalk.tw and iPeen.com.tw, the announcement said.

"Aside from serving local users on the island, Koubei's new site will provide information about Taiwan for mainland users," Koubei's general manager, Zhang Yu, said.

"Our site will provide info on local dining, transportation and shopping for Taiwan's many mainland visitors. Currently, this information is only available through travel agents or from Web forums," Zhang stated.

Over 4 million mainland travelers visited Taiwan in 2009, and the number is expected to rise, according to a report conducted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CSAA).

Established in 2004, Koubei provides localized lifestyle information to 50 million registered users in 2,864 locations across China, covering dining, transportation, entertainment, travel, among others.

Koubei ranked fourth in the Chinese online classified ad market with a 10.4 percent market share as of March 2010. 58.com was the market leader with a 24.87 percent share, according to figures released by domestic consulting firm ChinaLabs.
