Russia, Ukraine must build future generation aircraft - Medvedev

KYIV. May 17 (Interfax) - Russian-Ukrainian cooperation in aircraft building must focus on creating completely new modern models of aircraft, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said.

"We must come up with the most modern technological solutions. We do have the desire to continue to work across the entire line of aviation products which can be jointly developed by the Antonov company and the United Aircraft Corporation: An-140, An-148, and subsequently An-70 and An-124. But we must not stop there," Medvedev said at a press conference held jointly with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

"We must make products that will be sought-after on the aviation market in ten or 15 years," Medvedev said. "To put it bluntly, all the aircraft that I have named are mainly still from the past," he said.

"New products must be created, digital models of aircraft and vessels," he said.
