Apple to launch flagship store in Shanghai

Shanghai. June 17. INTERFAX-CHINA - Apple Inc. is preparing to launch its China flagship store in Shanghai, domestic media reported on June 17.

The store is Apple's second in China and will be located in the International Finance Center in Pudong, Web portal NetEase.con Inc. reported.

Apple launched its first and only other retail location in Beijing in 2008.

The Cupertino, California-based company revealed its plan to open 25 retail stores in China over the next two years at a shareholder's meeting in February.

A 3G WCDMA iPhone was introduced to the mainland market in cooperation with China United Network Communications Co. Ltd. (China Unicom) in October 2009.

Interfax reported on May 25 that China Mobile Communications Corp. (China Mobile) was pushing for the launch of an iPhone for use on China's home-grown TD-SCDMA 3G standard.

Both China Mobile and China Unicom are negotiating with Apple to introduce the iPad tablet to the mainland market.
