First generator at Shenxigou Hydropower Plant goes on line

Shanghai. June 29 INTERFAX-CHINA - The first generator at the Shenxigou Hydropower Plant in southern Sichuan Province has begun generating power, according to a June 28 announcement by Gezhouba Group Corp. (CGGC), the plant's builder.

According to the announcement, the plant's four generators having an installed capacity of 165,000 kilowatts (kW) each.

Construction of the plant, which sits on the Daduhe River, began in April 2006.

The plant's second generator is scheduled to begin operations in the second half of this year, with the remaining two going operational by the end of 2011, according to CGGC.

The RMB 6 billion ($883.65 million) hydropower plant will be able to generate 3.24 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per year once all four generators go on line.
