Ukrainian steel industry boosts roll output 17% in H1
KYIV. July 1 (Interfax) - Ukraine's steel industry boosted finished roll output 17% year-on-year in January-June to 14.53 million tonnes, the Dnipropetrovsk-based Metallurgprom association told Interfax.
Crude steel production jumped 18% to 16.34 million tonnes and pig iron grew 16% to 13.858 million tonnes.
The country produced 775,000 tonnes of steel pipes, up 5% year-on-year. Ukrainian coke production grew 12% to 9.281 million tonnes and hardware was up 30% to 131,000 tonnes. Scrap metal deliveries to Ukrainian steel mills rose 38% to 2.674 million tonnes.
Ukraine reduced finished roll output 15% in 2009 to 26.888 million tonnes. Crude steel production plummeted 20% to 29.757 million tonnes and pig iron fell 17% to 25.675 million tonnes.
