Vnukovo Airport opens new terminal

MOSCOW. July 6 (Interfax) - The new Terminal A at Vnukovo Airport, just southwest of Moscow, opened in trial mode on July 6, an Interfax correspondent reports from the opening ceremony.

The new terminal will for now accept several incoming flights daily but will not start to handle outgoing domestic flights until the end of July.

It will start to handle international flights once border and customs control services have been cleared to start operating.

Work on the 250,000-square meter terminal began in February 2006. The first stage that opened on July 6 is 174,000 square meters and is capable of handling 7 million passengers per year.

The first stage of the terminal cost 39 billion rubles to build and equip, and another 2 billion rubles will be invested in the second stage.

Vnukovo could be handling 18 million-20 million passengers per year by 2015.
