Shanghai. July 21. INTERFAX-CHINA - China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has expressed an interest in taking part in the construction of Alltek Group's liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in the Nenets Autonomous District.

CNOOC officials held talks with Alltek concerning the Pechora LNG project on July 19 in Moscow, the Nenets administration told Interfax. The following day, they met in Nenets with administration officials and top officials from the company which controls Alltek's oil and gas assets, SN-Neftegaz.

Alltek had announced previously that it was seeking an investor for the project. An anonymous source told Interfax that the company had already spoken with Gazprom concerning the project.

The Pechora LNG project involves the construction of an LNG plant which will receive its supplies from the Kumzhinskoye and Korovinskoye fields. Construction is due to start in 2011, with the plant expected to begin operations in 2015. Output will be exported to Asian-Pacific nations under long-term contracts.

The ABC1 and C2 resource at Kumzhinskoye total 104 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas and 4 million tons of condensate. Production at the field could reach as high as 3.9 bcm of gas and 200,000 tons of condensate each year.
