Norilsk Nickel

KRASNOYARSK. Sept 1 (Interfax) - The Russian government does not think Norilsk Nickel 's merger with potassium producers (Uralkali and Silvinit) is worthwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin told reporters in Krasnoyarsk.

"We are not considering this. They are not related assets in terms of production and infrastructure. I cannot imagine how production activities of a mining company and potassium companies could be combined," he said.

Options of mergers in the mining industry, including with the participation of Norilsk Nickel and UralKali, have been debated with various intensity since the beginning of the crisis.
