Russian stock market opens autumn with gains, Avtovaz soars
MOSCOW. Sept 1 (Interfax) - The Russian stock market posted gains on Wednesday following positive trends in the global equity and commodities markets prompted by stats from Asia and the U.S.
Avtovaz , a second-tier stock, outperformed the market, soaring 17.7% to a 25-month high of 23.65 rubles a share on rumors the car maker is planning a supplementary share issue.
The MICEX stock index closed up 1.88% to 1394.57 and the RTS was up 2.03% to 1449.99.
Benchmark stocks rose 0.4%-4.4%.
Other MICEX advancers included Gazprom , up 1.7%, Gazprom Neft - 1.3%, Lukoil - 1.6%, Rosneft - 1.8%, Sberbank - 2.7%, Surgutneftegas - 2.3%, MMC Norilsk Nickel - 2.2% and Polyus Gold - 0.4%.
Shares in Rostelecom corrected down by 2.8% after gaining over 10% at the start of the week on news of a dividend boost.
Second-tier advancers on the MICEX included PIK Group (+8.2%), Raspadskaya (+6.1%), TGK-2 (+5.4%), Polymetal (+5.4%) TMK (+5%).
RTS Classic Market volume was $5.4 million, RTS Standard turnover reached $372.78 million and MICEX volume came to 44.741 billion rubles.
