CIWEC hydro plant in Laos starts generating

Shanghai. September 2. INTERFAX-CHINA - China International Water Electric Corp. (CIWEC), a state-owned hydropower projects contractor, has put a 100 MW hydropower plant in Laos into operation, the company announced on Sept. 1.

According to the announcement, the Nam Lik 1-2 Hydropower Plant was built by CIWEC in a BOT (build-operate-transfer) deal between the company and the Laotian government.

Under the deal, CIWEC will operate the plant for 25 years after which time it will be run by the Laotian government, the company said.

CIWEC started construction of the $149 million hydropower plant in September 2007.
