Medvedev sets up govt commission to monitor food market

SARATOV. Sept 2 (Interfax) - After a meeting of the State Council Presidium in Saratov on Thursday President Dmitry Medvedev ordered the government to set up a commission to monitor and respond to changes in the situation on the food market.

"This commission will probably not work on a permanent basis. But let it work in this hard year," Medvedev said.

The commission will be in charge of coordinating positions of the federal and regional governments, and producers and self-regulating organizations which represent them, he said.

Medvedev agreed with the opinion that such self-regulating organizations "must be gaining weight."

"We cannot deal with each producer individually. On the other hand, we cannot regulate everything from Moscow," he said.
