Ukraine boosts electricity production 10.4% in 8 mths
KYIV. Sept 13 (Interfax) - Ukraine's unified power system produced 122.221 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in January-August 2010, 10.4% more than in the same period last year, the Fuel and Energy Ministry told Interfax.
Nuclear power plants generated 57.702 billion kWh of electricity in the period (6.9% more year-on-year), thermal electric stations and combined heat and power plants produced 49.515 billion kWh (up 12.7%), hydroelectric stations - 10.002 billion kWh (up 22.5%) and communal heat and power plants and block stations - 4.999 billion kWh (up 9.1%).
Alternative sources produced 3.5 million kWh, up from 0.4 million kWh in the same period last year.
Nuclear power accounted for 47.2% of output (down from 48.8% a year earlier), thermal - 40.5% (39.7%), hydroelectric - 8.2% (7.4%) and communal heat and power plants and block stations - 4.1% (4.1%).
Nuclear plants, thermal stations and regional boilers boosted heat output 9% to 16.790 million Gcal.
Ukraine produced 172.907 billion kWh of electricity in 2009, 9.8% less than in 2008.
