Sichuan aims for 90 mln kW of hydropower capacity by 2020

Shanghai. September 14. INTERFAX-CHINA - Sichuan Province plans to boost its installed hydropower capacity to reach over 90 million kilowatts (kW) by 2020, the provincial government announced on Sept. 13.

According to the announcement, all of China's major power generators operate hydropower plants in the resource-rich province, which currently has an installed hydropower capacity of around 31 million kW.

China's aggregate hydropower capacity is expected to grow from 196.79 million kW as of the end of 2009 to 330 million kW by 2020, industry experts forecast.

Sichuan hopes to be home to over a quarter of the country's total installed hydropower capacity by that time, the provincial government said.
