Norilsk begins delivering product to Asia on Northern Sea Route

MOSCOW. Sept 16 (Interfax) - MMC Norilsk Nickel has begun delivering product to Asia on the Northern Sea Route, significantly cutting down transit time, the company said on Thursday.

The company sent off the first ice-breaking transport on the route Murmansk-Dudinka-Busan-Shanghai on September 15. It will take 19-20 days to cover the Dudinka-Shanghai stretch, compared with 60-65 days on the traditional route around Europe and through the Suez Canal.

Norilsk Nickel has five of the ARC-7 Arctic-class freight ships.
