Gazprom to wrap up winter preparations next week, finish storing gas

MOSCOW. Oct 8 (Interfax) - Russian gas giant Gazprom will complete the pumping into storage in Russia of the natural gas the country will need during the fall and winter period, company chief Alexei Miller said during a meeting with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

"Gazprom has done all the necessary repair and maintenance work on gas extraction and transport facilities. We will finish up pumping gas into underground storage by October 15. The volume of gas in [underground storage] will be 64 billion cubic meters. This is an amount that will allow us to get through the fall-winter period absolutely effortlessly and to fully meet the needs of our consumers in peak usage periods. So we're maximally ready for the fall-winter period," Miller told the prime minister.
