RTS Index tops 1,600 points, highest level since Oct 14

MOSCOW. Oct 21 (Interfax) - The Russian Trading System (RTS) Index, one of the country's main stock exchanges, passed the psychological threshold over 1,600 points on Thursday evening following a rise on world markets.

By 5:40 pm Moscow time, the RTS had increased by 2.83% to 1,600.87 points.

The main advancers on the RTS were banking stocks: shares in VTB increased by 15.4% and in Sberbank - 6.7%, hitting their highest levels so far for 2010.
