MICEX index tops 1540 pts, regaining year's high

MOSCOW. Nov 1 (Interfax) - The MICEX index, one of Russia's main stock indicators, topped 1540 points on Monday, topping this year's high amid climbing world stock markets and oil.

By 11:57 a.m. Moscow time, the MICEX index was up 1.1% at 1540.19 points, the highest it had been since July 24, 2008. This year's previous high was the 1539.65 points reached on April 15.

The growth-leaders on the MICEX at that point were VTB (up 2.1%), Rostelecom (2.6%), Gazprom (1.4%), and Sberbank of Russia preferred shares (1.6%).
