Rural home appliance sales hit 7 mln units in October

Shanghai. November 8. INTERFAX-CHINA - The number of home appliances sold in rural China has increased 81 percent year-on-year to 6.98 million units for October, according to figures released by the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM).

According to MOFCOM, sales of rural home appliances generated revenue of RMB 16.59 billion ($2.49 billion) for Oct., up 123 percent year-on-year.

The most popular appliances sold during the month were color televisions, refrigerators and water-heaters, generating revenue of RMB 5.01 billion ($752 million), RMB 4.97 billion ($746 million) and RMB 1.70 billion ($255 million), up 157 percent, 96 percent and 260 percent year-on-year respectively.

The home appliance subsidy program for appliance purchases in rural areas has lifted sales volume to a record RMB 132.31 billion ($19.85 billion) for the first ten months of 2010, up 190 percent year-on-year, while the number of home appliances sold has grown 140 percent year-on-year to 59.51 million units over the same period.
