Russia to ship more coal than expected to China in 2010

ST. PETERSBURG. Nov 22 (Interfax) - Russia will ship more than 12 million tonnes of coal to China this year, Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan said during the latest Russian-Chinese energy dialog in St Petersburg.

"Chinese coal imports from Russia will top 12 million tonnes this year. Nobody expected this - only in September we were talking about 10 million tonnes," Wang said.

Wang, who met with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin Monday, said energy cooperation between Russia and China was going well, and this cooperation was very important to both countries.
