Ukrros boosts sugar output 30% in 2010

KYIV. Dec 10 (Interfax) - Sugar Union Ukrros, a leading Ukrainian sugar producer, has boosted output almost 30% in 2010 to 174,000 tonnes.

The increase is the result of increased production of sugar from cane.

The company produced 59,000 tonnes of cane sugar in 2010, up from just 4,000 tonnes in 2009. Sugar production from sugar beets declined 13% to 115,000 tonnes.

The company blamed the decline in production of sugar from sugar beet on poor weather conditions that prevailed throughout Ukraine.

The company plans to increase its own production of sugar beet by 15% in 2011. Its agricultural enterprises have prepared 18,000 hectares for the sugar beet crop.

Ukrros was formed in February 2007. It has about 100,000 hectares under management , as well as three elevators with capacity to store 152,000 tonnes.

Production of sugar from sugar beet declined to 130,000 tonnes from 199,000 tonnes in 2008 due to tight supplies. Ukrros reckons it had a 10.5% share of Ukraine's sugar market in 2009.
