Heilongjiang Province establishes cancer biotherapy center

Shanghai. January 10. INTERFAX-CHINA - Harbin Medical University Cancer Hospital has established a cancer biotherapy center, the Heilongjiang Provincial Government announced on its Web site Jan. 10.

The hospital, located in the provincial capital of Harbin, will invest a total of RMB 5 million ($754,420) in the center, which is the first of its kind in the province, the announcement said. The facility will train doctors in cancer biotherapy and formulate provincial treatment guidelines, as well as treat patients.

Biotherapy involves using the immune system to fight cancer cells, and has fewer adverse effects than conventional treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
