Russian food imports up 15% in 11 mths - Customs

MOSCOW. Jan 14 (Interfax) - Russia imported 15.1% more food products in the first 11 months of 2010 year-on-year, the Federal Customs Service reported.

Imports of fish rose 3.8% year-on-year in the 11 months, cheese - up 33.7%, citrus fruit - up 18.7%, coffee - up 12.4% and condensed milk - up 10.6-fold. Imports of raw sugar rose 64.5% in the 11 months: more than 2 million tonnes for $1 billion.

Poultry meat imports declined 45.7% in the period, to 452,400 tonnes worth $617.8 million.

Imports also declined for canned meat (down 9.7% year-on-year), tea (2.5%) and corn (12%).

Food exports declined 26.2%, including 18.8% for wheat, 55.2% for barley and 49.2% for vegetable oil, while exports increased 220% for poultry meat, 37.9% for fish and 58% for buckwheat groats.
