Russia will be preferred choice for new NPP construction in Iran

MOSCOW. Jan 20 (Interfax) - Russia's chances of winning a future tender for the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Iran are most preferable, Ali Ashgar Soltanieh said, Iran's permanent representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

"Compared to other countries, we will give more points to Russia because we have more trust in it," he told a press conference in Moscow on Thursday.

Iranian leaders have set a goal of increasing the share of nuclear power plants in total electricity production to 20,000 megawatts, he recalled.

"Our responsible officials have invited Russia and other countries [to participate in future tenders]," Soltanieh said.
