Beijing's natural gas consumption doubles in 5-year period

Shanghai. January 26. INTERFAX-CHINA - Beijing Municipality consumed 25.55 billion cubic meters of natural gas in 2010, more than doubling its consumption volume in the past five years, according to statistics released by the municipal government to on Jan. 25.

According to the statistics, Beijing has seen the number of residential natural gas consumers grow by 39 percent to 4.07 million since 2005, when its natural gas consumption totaled 11.11 billion cubic meters.

With a gas pipeline network of 13,000 kilometers, Beijing's peak daily natural gas consumption volume now stands at 51.78 million cubic meters, compared with 24.71 million cubic meters in 2005.

In 2010, China's total natural gas consumption stood at approximately 106 billion cubic meters and is expected to grow to 130 billion cubic meters this year, according to a research institute under China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC).
