Renault-Nissan, AvtoVAZ consider Primorye auto production
MOSCOW. Jan 31 (Interfax) - Representatives of a delegation of the Renault-Nissan alliance and AvtoVAZ have visited Primorye territory to study the possibility of setup up automotive assembly in the region, the territorial administration said.
The alliance is considering using existing production facilities and infrastructure, the administration press service said. "For these purposes, the alliance will be offered several premises, including OJSC 322 ARZ, OJSC Slavyansky SRZ, OJSC Primorye Plant, OJSC Uragan, OJSC Ussuriysk ARZ, OJSC 25 TsARZ, and OJSC Askold," it said.
As reported previously, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin suggested last March that the Renault-Nissan alliance take part in setting up production in Russia's Far East. "You and we worked together in developing production in St. Petersburg. We invite you to take part in work to create an analogous enterprise in the Far East," Putin said during a meeting with Renault-Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn. The prime minister expressed confidence that if Far Eastern production is set up it would enjoy "a high degree of demand."
"People who live there are used to cars of Japanese production, and Nissan would fit right in," Putin said.
Renault-Nissan and AvtoVAZ alliance companies are located in St. Petersburg (Nissan plant), in Moscow (OJSC Avtoframos, Renault plant), and Tolyatti (OJSC AvtoVAZ). After completion of a deal with Sberbank of Russia subsidiary United Automobile Group LLC for OJSC Izh-Auto, the alliance will also have production capacity in Izhevsk.
