Crisis shuffles Russia's top ten insurer rankings - analyst
MOSCOW. March 1 (Interfax) - The global finance crisis has rearranged the rankings of the top 10 Russian insurance companies, Interfax-Center for Economic Analysis chief analyst Angela Dolgopolova said.
"The major insurance companies had very different experiences during the belt-tightening period. Their positions in the rankings changed accordingly," Dolgopolova said, citing data from the federal insurance supervisory, Rosstrakhnadzor.
Ingosstrakh saw premium income decline 7.8% and Uralsib collected 15.6% less premiums. As a result, Ingosstrakh surrendered second place to SOGAZ and Uralsib fell to 10th place. Mikhail Prokhorov's Soglasie, which boosted premium 75.5%, shot up to eighth place.
Premium income in the insurance sector overall (excluding mandatory medical insurance) rose 8.3% last year. Premium income was below that rate at ROSNO (3.8% growth) and Alfa Strakhovanie (6%).
Other companies in the top 10 boosted premium income by double the market average, she said.
Rosgosstrakh remained the number one company, with premium income more than double its nearest competitor.
