Exports of diesel fuel down 2.4% in 2010, demand up inside Russia - Kortes
MOSCOW. April 20 (Interfax) - Exports of diesel fuel decreased by 2.4% 2010 owing to heightened demand on the domestic market (at 37.7 million tonnes), Mikhail Turukalov, the head editor for prices and regional markets at the Kortes Information Center, said at conference in Moscow on Wednesday.
Diesel fuel production last year came to 70 million tonnes, of which 46% went to export and 54% was shipped to the domestic market.
According to Kortes, domestic consumption of diesel fuel went up 11.3% to
32.5 million tonnes in 2010.
Imports of diesel fuel came to 510,000 tonnes last year.
Turukalov said that diesel production in Russia exceeded domestic demand by more than 100% but this does not insulate the Russian market from price spikes.
Diesel fuel from Russia is generally exports to non-CIS countries. According to Kortes, 93% of diesel exports went to non-CIS countries and 7% were shipped to CIS markets. In addition, 63% of diesel exports were exports via pipeline, 32% - by railway and 5% other types of transport.
Shipments through Baltic ports accounted for 62% of exports and 32% - Black Sea ports. Far East ports accounted for 6% of exports.
