Tea-maker May purchases production and logistics complex in Ukraine

MOSCOW. July 28 (Interfax) - May Ukraine has closed the purchase of a production and logistics complex in the town of Obukhov in the Kyiv region.

The value of the transaction has yet to be released. The estimated value of similar facilities comes to around $5 million, the company said in a press release.

The complex has 10,000 square meters in space. The facility is fully equipped with all necessary engineering systems. The project will create over 250 jobs.

"The increase in financial investment in the most attractive sectors of the Ukrainian economy is a strategic priority for us," the company's general director, Igor Lisinenko, was quoted as saying in the press release.

The company invested around 10 million hryvni (34.3 billion rubles) in December 2010 in new equipment for the production of packaged tea in Ukraine.

May was founded in 1991 and is one of the leading operators of the tea and coffee market in Russia, the CIS and the Baltic.

The company owns several subsidiaries, May Company Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd., which represents its interest in exporter countries of tea and coffee, and May Ukraine, which operates in Ukraine and Moldova's tea markets. May's has production capacity in Russia and Ukraine, as well as a wide network of branches and distribution centers in Russia, the CIS and the Baltic.

The company produces tea under the brands Maisky, Lisma and Curtis.
