Russia cuts poultry meat imports 35.6% in 2011 - customs

MOSCOW. Feb 6 (Interfax) - Russia imported 418,800 tonnes of poultry meat for $592.5 million last year, 35.6% less than the 649,900 tonnes (for $863.2 million) it did in 2010, the Federal Customs Service (FCS) reported on Monday.

Imports of other kinds of meat were relatively flat year to year - 1.279 million tonnes for $4.6 billion this year versus 1.277 million tonnes for $4.1 billion in 2010. Fish imports into Russia decreased to 703,700 tonnes (for $1.9 billion) from 791,400 tonnes (for $1.7 billion).

Some of the greatest decreases in food imports involved milk and cream, which dropped to 30,800 tonnes (for $99.9 million) from 78,800 tonnes (for $257.6 million) in 2010. Sunflower imports decreased to 93,500 tonnes (for $125.8 million) from 114,300 tonnes (for $119 million).

The FCS also reported that coffee imports into Russia last year amounted to 112,300 tonnes (for $516.8 million) versus 102,400 tonnes (for $333 million) in 2010, and tea imports increased to 187,800 tonnes (for $625.1 million) from 181,600 tonnes (for $563.1 million). Citrus fruit imports increased to 1.66 million tonnes (for $1.6 billion) from 1.49 million tonnes (for $1.27 billion), cacao bean imports to 61,300 tonnes (for $219.5 million) from 54,300 tonnes (for $211.7 million).

In 2011, raw sugar imports amounted to 2,331,500 tonnes (for $1.7 billion) versus 2,086,300 tonnes (for $1.2 billion) in 2010. Imports of white sugar last year were down at 54,700 tonnes (for $48.6 million) from 95,800 tonnes (for $70.6 million).

Russia imported alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage product for $2.7 billion last year ($2.2 billion in 2010). Imports of tobacco goods (cigarettes and cigars) decreased to $103.7 million from $128.1 million in 2001.
