Ruble edges up, euro down on Wednesday
MOSCOW. Feb 15 (Interfax) - The dollar edged up slightly on the MICEX on Wednesday, while the euro saw a significant drop and the ruble grew against the bi-currency basket with support from increased oil prices.
The dollar closed the day on the Moscow Interbank Currency Exchange (MICEX) up just 0.75 kopecks at 30.01 rubles/$1, while the euro lost 18 kopecks at 39.32 rubles/EUR1.
The bi-currency basket ($0.55 and EUR0.45) decreased 8 kopecks to 34.2 rubles.
The Central Bank lowered its official dollar and euro rate on Wednesday. Its dollar rate was down by 14.28 kopecks to 29.944 rubles/$1, and its euro rate was down 8.59 kopecks to 39.4572 rubles/EUR1.
The dollar averaged down 11.15 kopecks to 29.9531 rubles/$1 in Today deals on the MICEX and 6.08 kopecks to 29.976 rubles/$1 in Tom deals. Overall trading volume was $6.094 billion, including $1.491 billion Today and $4.603 billion Tom.
The euro fell 10.86 kopecks to 39.4522 rubles/EUR1 in Today deals and 13.05 kopecks to 39.4244 rubles/EUR1 in Tom deals in volume of EUR474.6 million, including EUR220.8 million Today and EUR253.8 million Tom.
The MosPrime rate for overnight loans rose 3 basis points to 4.58%.
