Nissan starts SKD assembly of Infiniti in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG. June 20 (Interfax) - LLC Nissan Manufacturing Rus (St. Petersburg) has been carrying out SKD assembly of Infiniti FX and Infiniti M cars since April, a representative of Nissan in St. Petersburg told the press Wednesday.

"Capacity stands at 20 Infiniti per day and there are no localization plans yet. Engine capacity is 4.7 liters, 3.5l, 2.5l and 5.6l. There is a separate non-conveyer line for the cars," he said, without giving further details. Current capacity at the plant means there is not enough space for conveyer assembly of the Infiniti.

Tatiana Natarova, an official spokesperson for Nissan, confirmed to Interfax that a limited amount of Infiniti cars were being assembled in St. Petersburg. In accordance with the agreement on industrial assembly, SKD assembly is possible for a limited period, she said. Natarova did not confirm the volume of Infiniti produced and did not comment on further plans to produce these cars in St. Petersburg.

Nissan opened its plant in St. Petersburg on June 2 2009. Investment in the plant reached $200 million. The plant has since June 2009 produced Teana and X-Trail cars and it began producing Murano cars in January 2011.
