Probe against Domodedovo bombing suspects completed
MOSCOW. June 27 (Interfax) - The Russian Investigative Committee has completed an investigation against four people accused of involvement in the January 24, 2011 bombing at the Domodedovo airport, Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin told Interfax on Wednesday.
"An investigation against four members of an organized criminal community suspected of involvement in the perpetration of the terrorist attack at the Domodedovo airport, i.e. brothers Islam Yandiyev and Ilez Yandiyev, Akhmed Yevloyev, and Bashir Khamkhoyev, has been completed," Markin said.
The defendants and their attorneys have started examining the criminal case, he said.
"The investigation against the organizers of the terrorist attack, Doku Umarov, Aslan Byutukayev, and other individuals is continuing," Markin said.
The brothers Yandiyev, Yevloyev, and Khamkhoyev have been charged with belonging to a criminal group, committing a terrorist attack, murder, illegal turnover of weapons, and other crimes, he said.
The investigation has found that Magomed Yevloyev, 21, set off an improvised explosive device equivalent to 3 to 5 kilos of TNT stuffed with metal balls and strapped to his body in the international arrivals hall at the Domodedovo airport on January 24, 2011. The blast killed 27 and injured 172 citizens of Russia and foreign countries.
Investigators believe the bombing was organized by Umarov, the leader of the criminal organization Imarat Kavkaz. Byutukayev and Supyan Abdullayev reporting to Umarov were responsible for selecting Yevloyev and preparing him for the suicide-bombing.
