Reservoirs played no role in flood in Krasnodar territory - Emergencies' Minister
MOSCOW. July 9 (Interfax) - The causes of the flood in the Krymsk district of Krasnodar territory were purely natural, the operation of hydrotechnical facilities did not have an impact on the tragic course of events, the Emergency Situations' Ministry Vladimir Puchkov has said.
"There were no prerequisites on the part of the reservoirs in creating conditions for a sharp increase in water levels. I personally examined all the dams and locks," he said to journalists on Monday.
He said the flood was the result of a coincidence of several natural factors.
"We are speaking of heavy rainfalls and high base water levels which in a very short time led to a disastrous rise in water levels in rivers from which people, homes and facilities suffered," the minister said.
